【摘要】:ThisEuropeanStandardprovidesadictionaryofthepossiblecomponentsofpostaladdresses,togetherwithexamplesofandconstraintsontheiruse.Italsodefinesanumberofusefulterms,suchasdeliveryaddress,forwardingaddress,maileeandmailoriginator.Itdoesnotspecifythelengthorvaluerangeofcomponents.Nor,thoughitmayindicatesomecasesinwhichacomponentmayoccurmorethanonce,doesitgiveaprecisespecificationofrecurrencerules.NOTE1Anindividualpostaladdress,oraclassofpostaladdresses(suchastheaddressesusedinagivencountry)mayrequireonlyasubsetofthepossiblecomponents.Forexample,Irishpostaladdressesdonotincludepostcode;Dutchaddressesdonotseparatethoroughfaretypefromthoroughfarename.Thestandardisanenablingone:itservestodefinecomponentsthataredrawnoninotherstandardsdescribedintheIntroductionabove.Itisintendedtobeusedtogetherwiththeotherpartsofthestandard.Thestandarddefinesthreelevelsofpostaladdresscomponent:a)elements,suchasorganisationnameorlegalstatus,whichcorrespondtothelowestlevelofcomponentwhichitmaybeuseful(A.1)todistinguishinaddressrepresentations;b)constructs,suchasorganisationidentification,whichgroupelementsintounitswhicharemoremeaningfulforhumaninterpretation;c)segments,suchasaddresseespecification,whichcorrespondtomajorlogicalportionsofapostaladdress.Byprovidingastandarddictionaryofpostaladdresscomponents,thisstandardisexpectedtogreatlyfacilitatetheformaldescriptionofactualaddressrepresentationsandthedefinitionofproceduresformappingbetweenthem.Inpractice,manyaddressrepresentations,whetherincomputerdatabases,inelectronicmessagesorinprintedorwrittenform,maycombineseveralofthepostaladdresscomponentsdefinedhereinintosinglefieldsorlines.NOTE2Practicaldatabases(andevenprintedaddresses)mayalsocombinepostaladdresscomponents,asdefinedherein,withotherrelevantdata.Forexample,acompany'scustomerdatabasemayincludeacustomerreferenceoridentificationnumberalongwitheachcustomer'saddress.Suchadditionaldataarenotconsidered,forthepurposeofthisEuropeanStandard,aspartoftheaddress,buttheymustobviouslybetakenintoaccountinthedesignofthedatabaseandoftheapplicationsthatuseit.Considerableintelligencemayberequiredinmappingbetweendifferentrepresentations,particularlywherethesearesubjecttoadegreeofambiguity.EXAMPLE:IntheindividualnameJohnSmith,itisreasonablyevidentthatSmithistheindividual'ssurnameandthatJohnisagivenname.ButJamesJoyceisrathermoreambiguous:doesthisrepresentMrJoyce,withgivennameJames,orMsJames,withgivennameJoyce?Thisstandarddoesnotcoverthetopicofdataprotection.Usersofthestandardareneverthelessremindedthatthestorageandexchangeofpersonaldataaresubjecttolegislationinmanycountries.Thestandardmaybeappliedonlytotheextentthatthisiscompliantwithsuchlegislation.ThepresentversionofthestandardappliestoEuropeanpostaladdressesonly.NOTE2Applicationofthestandardtoaddressesofnon-Europeancountriesisforfurtherstudy.Anumberofgroupsareworkingonthedefinition,printingandcommunicationofaddressesforotherpartsoftheworld.Whentheresultsofsuchworkbecomeavailable,itisintendedthatthestandardshouldbereviewedtoensureworld-widecompatibility.
