【摘要】:ThisguideisintendedtosupplementthemethodsandproceduresdescribedinTestMethodsD5084.Whenfollowingtherecommendationsinthisguidetotestpapersludges,allassumptionsandlimitationsdescribedinTestMethodsD5084apply.Thisguideonlyappliestohydraulicconductivitytestsonpaperindustrysludgeswhereone-dimensionallaminarflowofwaterisimposedusingaflexible-wallpermeameter.Thehydraulicconductivityofsludges,andotherporousmaterials,generallydecreasesasthedegreeofwatersaturationdecreases.Thisguideappliesonlytowater-saturatedsludgecontainingnegligibleamountsofgas.Thisguideappliesonlytopermeationofpaperindustrysludgeswithwater.InformationontestingporousmaterialswithliquidsotherthanwatercanbefoundinTestMethodD7100.ThehydraulicconductivityofpapersludgemeasuredinthelaboratoryfollowingTestMethodsD5084andtherecommendationsinthisguidemayormaynotbecomparabletothehydraulicconductivityofin-placesludge.Theissuehasnotbeenfullyinvestigated.Therefore,theresultsshouldbeappliedtofieldsituationswithcautionandbyqualifiedpersonnel.Note18212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedwhenusingtherecommendationsinthisguidedependsonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingthetestingandthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesthatareemployed.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting,sampling,inspection,etc.UsersofthisguidearecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfensurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Paperindustrysludgesareindustrialby-productsderivedfromwastewatertreatmentoperationsatplantsassociatedwiththemanufacturingofpaper.Thesesludgestypicallyconsistofclayandorganicmatter.Theymayalsocontainlowlevelsofinorganicandorganiccontaminantsandcanberichinmicrobes.Traditionally,paperindustrysludgeshavebeendisposedinmunicipalsolidwastelandfillsorsolidwastemonofills.However,intheinterestofsustainability,applicationsarebeingdevelopedwheresludgescanbeusedbeneficially.Oneapplicationisusingsludgetoconstructhydraulicbarriers(forexample,foruseinalandfillcap).Suchapplicationsgenerallyrequirethatthehydraulicconductivityofthesludgebemeasured.1.2Compactedpaperindustrysludgesgenerallybehavelikesoilsandareamenabletogeotechnicaltestingmethods.However,severaloftheirattributesrequirespecialattentionduringtesting.Compactedindustrysludgesgenerallyarehighlycompressibleduetotheirorganiccomponent.Thus,theirhydraulicconductivitycanbemoresensitivetotheeffectivestressandhydraulicgradientappliedduringtestingthanmostsoils.Themicrobesinpapersludgecanalsoproducegasduringtesting,confoundingtestingmethods.1.3ThisguideisintendedtosupplementASTMD5084,TestMethodsforMeasurementofHydraulicConductivityofSaturatedPorousMaterialsUsingaFlexibleWallPermeameter.ThepurposeoftheguideistoprovideadditionalguidanceonissuesrelevanttotestingsludgesusingTestMethodsD5084.TheguideappliestospecimenscompactedinthelaboratoryusingproceduressuchasthosedescribedinTestMethodsD698andD1557orundisturbedspecimenscollectedfromthefieldusingproceduressuchasPracticeD1587orPracticeD7015.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcern......
