【摘要】:Biodegradationisanimportantprocessfortheremovalofmanychemicalsubstancesinanaerobicenvironments.Inmethanogenicenvironments,thisprocessinvolvesdissimilationtocarbondioxideandmethane.Thistestmethodhasbeendevelopedtoscreenorganicchemicalsforanaerobicbiodegradationpotentialundermethanogenicconditions,wherethereisnoingressofoxygen.Ahigh-biodegradabilityresultinthistestmethodisgoodevidencethatthetestsubstancewillbebiodegradableinwastetreatmentplantanaerobicdigestersandinmanynaturalenvironments.Conversely,alow-biodegradationresultmayhavecausesotherthanpoorbiodegradabilityofthetestsubstance.Inhibitionofthemicrobialinoculumbythetestsubstancemayhaveoccurredattheconcentrationstested,orconditionsinthetestmayhavebeeninappropriateforthedevelopmentofanacclimatedmicrobialpopulation.Toxicityshouldbesuspectedwhenthegasproductionintheblanksexceedsthatinthetestvessels.Insuchcases,furtherworkisneededtoassesstheanaerobicbiodegradationpotentialofthechemical.Anestimateoftheexpectedenvironmentalconcentrationwillhelptoputanyobservedtoxiceffectsintoperspective.1.1Thistestmethodcoversscreeningproceduresforthedeterminingthebiodegradationpotentialoforganicchemicalsundermethanogenicconditionsusinganinoculumfromanaerobicsewagetreatment.Theconditionsdescribedinthistestmethodarenotnecessarilyoptimalforbiodegradation,sinceitinvolvesadiluteinoculumandarelativelyhighconcentrationoftestchemical.1.2Thetestmethodisapplicabletomostorganicchemicals,assumingthattheycanbeaccuratelydosedintothetestsystems.Thetestisnotapplicabletochemicalsthatareinhibitoryattheconcentrationusedinthetestorthosewhosevolatilitygeneratessignificantheadpressureinthetestvessels.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.SpecifichazardstatementsaregiveninSection8.
