【摘要】:Thistestmethodisusedtodeterminethemechanicalpropertiesinflexureofengineeredceramiccomponentswithmultiplelongitudinalhollowchannels,commonlydescribedasx201C;honeycombx201D;channelarchitectures.Thecomponentsgenerallyhave30%ormoreporosityandthecross-sectionaldimensionsofthehoneycombchannelsareontheorderof1millimeterorgreater.Theexperimentaldataandcalculatedstrengthvaluesfromthistestmethodareusedformaterialandstructuraldevelopment,productcharacterization,designdata,qualitycontrol,andengineering/productionspecifications.Note18212;Flexuretestingisthepreferredmethodfordeterminingthenominalx201C;tensilefracturex201D;strengthofthesecomponents,ascomparedtoacompression(crushing)test.Anominaltensilestrengthisrequired,becausethesematerialscommonlyfailintensionunderthermalgradientstresses.Atruetensiletestisdifficulttoperformonthesehoneycombspecimensbecauseofgrippingandalignmentchallenges.Themechanicalpropertiesdeterminedbythistestmethodarebothmaterialandarchitecturedependent,becausethemechanicalresponseandstrengthoftheporoustestspecimensaredeterminedbyacombinationofinherentmaterialpropertiesandmicrostructureandthearchitectureofthechannelporosity[porosityfraction/relativedensity,channelgeometry(shape,dimensions,cellwallthickness,etc.),anisotropyanduniformity,etc.]inthespecimen.Comparisonoftestdatamustconsiderbothdifferencesinmaterial/compositionpropertiesaswellasdifferencesinchannelporosityarchitecturebetweenindividualspecimensanddifferencesbetweenandwithinspecimenlots.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationoftheflexuralstrength(modulusofruptureinbending)atambientconditionsofadvancedceramicstructureswith2-dimensionalhoneycombchannelarchitectures.1.2Thetestmethodisfocusedonengineeredceramiccomponentswithlongitudinalhollowchannels,commonlycalledx201C;honeycombx201D;channels.(SeeFig.1.)Thecomponentsgenerallyhave30%ormoreporosityandthecross-sectionaldimensionsofthehoneycombchannelsareontheorderof1millimeterorgreater.Ceramicswiththesehoneycombstructuresareusedinawiderangeofapplications(catalyticconversionsupports(1),hightemperaturefilters(2,3),combustionburnerplates(4),energyabsorptionanddamping(5),etc.).Thehoneycombceramicscanbemadeinarangeofceramiccompositionsalumina,cordierite,zirconia,spinel,mullite,siliconcarbide,siliconnitride,graphite,andcarbon.Thecomponentsareproducedinavarietyofgeometries(blocks,plates,cylinders,rods,rings).1.3Thetestmethoddescribestwotestspecimengeometriesfordeterminingtheflexuralstrength(modulusofrupture)foraporoushoneycombceramictestspecimen(seeFig.2):1.3.1TestMethodA8212;A4-pointor3-pointbendingtestwithuser-definedspecimengeometries,and1.3.2TestMethodB8212;A4-point-x00BC;pointbendingtestwithadefinedrectangularspecimengeometry(13mmx00D7;25mmx00D7;>116mm)anda90mmoutersupportspangeometrysuitableforcordieriteandsiliconcarbidehoneycombswithsmallcellsizes.
