【摘要】:Heliumisintroducedintometalsasaconsequenceofnuclearreactions,suchas(n,x03B1;),orbytheinjectionofheliumintometalsfromtheplasmainfusionreactors.Thecharacterizationoftheeffectofheliumonthepropertiesofmetalsusingdirectirradiationmethodsmaybeimpracticalbecauseofthetimerequiredtoperformtheirradiationorthelackofaradiationfacility,asinthecaseofthefusionreactor.Simulationtechniquescanacceleratetheresearchbyidentifyingandisolatingmajoreffectscausedbythepresenceofhelium.Thewordsimulationisusedhereinabroadsensetoimplyanapproximationoftherelevantirradiationenvironment.Therearemanycomplexinteractionsbetweentheheliumproducedduringirradiationandotherirradiationeffects,socaremustbeexercisedtoensurethattheeffectsbeingstudiedareasuitableapproximationoftherealeffect.Bywayofillustration,detailsofheliumintroduction,especiallytheimplantationtemperature,maydeterminethesubsequentdistributionofthehelium(thatis,dispersedatomistically,insmallclustersinbubbles,etc.)1.1Thisguideprovidesadviceforconductingexperimentstoinvestigatetheeffectsofheliumonthepropertiesofmetalswherethetechniqueforintroducingtheheliumdiffersinsomewayfromtheactualmechanismofintroductionofheliuminservice.Simulationtechniquesconsideredforintroducingheliumshallincludechargedparticleimplantation,exposureto-emittingradioisotopes,andtritiumdecaytechniques.Proceduresfortheanalysisofheliumcontentandheliumdistributionwithinthespecimenarealsorecommended.1.2Twoothermethodsforintroducingheliumintoirradiatedmaterialsarenotcoveredinthisguide.Theyaretheenhancementofheliumproductioninnickel-bearingalloysbyspectraltailoringinmixed-spectrumfissionreactors,andisotopictailoringinbothfastandmixed-spectrumfissionreactors.ThesetechniquesaredescribedinRefs(1-5).Dualionbeamtechniques(6)forsimultaneouslyimplantingheliumandgeneratingdisplacementdamagearealsonotincludedhere.ThislattermethodisdiscussedinPracticeE521.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
